Book: Siam and World War I

I received this book, and it helps me understand much better the situation of Siamese soldiers during the First World War. Siam and World War I: An International History by Stefan Hell explains a part of history that many Thai people do not know well. It tells how Siam, under King Vajiravudh of Siam (King Rama VI), declared war on Germany and Austria-Hungary in 1917 and sent soldiers to support the Allies.

The book shows with photos and reports that Siamese soldiers not only joined the war but also entered German territory after the fighting ended. This was very important for Siam, because it made the country the only nation in Southeast Asia to sign the Treaty of Versailles. It gave Siam more respect and recognition in the world.

The book also shows the difficulties for those soldiers. They traveled far from home to Europe, a place they did not know. They suffered in the cold winter, they had problems with language and culture, and they had to learn new ways of fighting. But they did their duty with pride and honor.

When I read these some stories, I can see the courage, sacrifice, and strong will of our ancestors who joined the world war. I feel proud to imagine the Siamese Trai Rong flag flying next to the flags of the great powers of that time.

I want to say thank you @ChanasitJonas for this book. It is not only useful information but also a reminder that Siam was part of world history. It teaches me the real meaning of sacrifice for the country and the important role of our soldiers in World War I.

Willst du n Titel? - Mach gucklich richtig und gut!

ในช่วงวันที่ 1-3 สิงหาคม พ.ศ. 2568 ผมได้รับเกียรติเป็นวิทยากรบรรยายในหัวข้อ "Willst du n Titel? - Mach gucklich richtig und gut!" ให้กับสำนักงานผู้ดูแลนักเรียนในสหพันธ์สาธารณรัฐเยอรมนี และนักเรียนทุนรัฐบาลไทยที่กำลังศึกษาอยู่ที่นั่น

ในการบรรยายครั้งนี้ ผมได้นำเสนอแนวคิดจาก Cross-cultural Dimensions Tool ของ ศาสตราจารย์ Geert Hofstede ซึ่งเป็นทฤษฎีสำคัญในด้าน Cross Cultural Management ที่ได้รับการยอมรับในระดับสากล ผมใช้เครื่องมือนี้ในการวิเคราะห์และฉายให้เห็นถึงความแตกต่างทางวัฒนธรรมระหว่างไทยกับเยอรมัน เพื่อเปิดมุมมองใหม่ ๆ ให้กับนักเรียนทุน ซึ่งผมทราบมาว่ามีน้อง ๆ บางคนได้ไปค้นคว้าข้อมูลเพิ่มเติมเกี่ยวกับเรื่องนี้ ทำให้เกิดความเข้าใจที่ลึกซึ้งยิ่งขึ้น

นอกจากนี้ การใช้ข้อมูลเชิงตัวเลขในการวิเคราะห์ยังช่วยให้นักเรียนสายวิทยาศาสตร์สามารถทำความเข้าใจเนื้อหาที่ซับซ้อนได้อย่างง่ายดาย

ผมรู้สึกผูกพันกับทฤษฎีของศาสตราจารย์ Hofstede เป็นพิเศษ เพราะก่อนหน้านี้ผมเคยติดต่อกับท่านทางอีเมลเพื่อขออนุญาตนำทฤษฎีของท่านมาใช้ในวิทยานิพนธ์ระดับปริญญาโท แม้ท่านจะไม่ใช่อาจารย์ของผมโดยตรง แต่การแลกเปลี่ยนความรู้หลายครั้งก็ทำให้ผมได้รับความเมตตาและข้อมูลเชิงลึกมากมายจากท่าน แม้ว่าท่านจะจากไปนานแล้ว แต่ผมก็ยังคงระลึกถึงท่านเสมอมา

การบรรยายในครั้งนี้จึงเป็นโอกาสที่ผมตั้งใจจะนำเสนอแนวคิดของท่าน เพื่อเป็นการรำลึกและแสดงความขอบคุณจากใจจริง ซึ่งผมหวังเป็นอย่างยิ่งว่าองค์ความรู้นี้จะเป็นประโยชน์ต่อนักเรียนทุนรัฐบาลไม่มากก็น้อย

A Talk on Cross-cultural Understanding

From August 1st to 3rd, 2025, I was a speaker at an event for Thai students in Germany. The event was titled "Willst du n Titel? - Mach gucklich richtig und gut!" and was organized by the Office of the Educational Affairs.

My talk focused on the Cross-cultural Dimensions Tool by Professor Geert Hofstede. This is a well-known theory used to understand different cultures. I explained the cultural differences between Thailand and Germany to the students, giving them a wider perspective. It was helpful for science students because the theory uses numbers to analyze cultures, which made it easier to understand.

This topic is very important to me. I had a special connection with Professor Hofstede because I contacted him by email to ask for his permission to use his theory for my master's thesis. We exchanged many emails, and he was very kind and helpful. I learned a lot from him, even though he was not my direct professor. He passed away a few years ago, but I will always remember his kindness.

I chose to present his theory at this event to honor him and show my gratitude. I believe that understanding these cultural differences will be very useful for the students. I was happy to hear that some students researched the topic more after the talk.

Finally, I would like to thank the Minister Counsellor (Educational Affairs) and all the staff at the Office of the Educational Affairs for inviting me. I also want to thank the Royal Thai Embassy in Berlin for letting me participate in many of their events.
