I’m truly impressed by the visionary leap that Chulalongkorn University is taking through the newly launched Ph.D. program in Korean Studies for International Management (KSIM). This program marks a transformation—from teaching Korean language and culture solely as humanities, into an integrated discipline of Korean Studies + Korean Management = Korean Global Management.
In Thailand, we’ve seen various foreign language programs thrive—English, Japanese, German—but very few have evolved into powerful, service-driven, and innovative programs that integrate language with real-world management frameworks. This KSIM program is a bold step forward—a trailblazing model that redefines how language education can serve as a bridge to global business leadership.
If I hadn’t already pursued my doctoral studies, this would absolutely be my top choice.
Having taught at Thai-Nichi Institute of Technology with a background in Japanese and German, I’ve long believed that language learning alone will soon lose its edge, as translation technologies continue to evolve rapidly. The real opportunity lies in combining language mastery with strategic knowledge—especially in business and innovation.
Years ago, I studied for an MBA in Innovation Management (completed coursework but left due to differing perspectives with my advisor), and later pursued International Business Economics (cut short due to the Bangkok floods). These experiences only reaffirmed my belief that language must go hand-in-hand with management acumen to create professionals who are both culturally fluent and economically strategic.
What excites me the most is how KSIM is ahead of the curve, even outpacing more established fields like Japanese Studies in Thailand. This is not just a degree—it’s a platform to empower global professionals who can shape economic diplomacy and cultural exchange between Thailand and Korea.
Let’s learn not just to speak Korean, but to understand, manage, and lead through it.
